Nike Vomero 18

The Vomero 18 is the generation with which Nike reinvented its softest daily running shoe. Where the line served the safe middle ground for years, the brand went higher here: a heavily stacked midsole that lifts the foot far off the ground and fully cushions the landing. It is the opposite of the race models, where every gram counts.

The cushioning is built in two layers. At the bottom lies the lighter, resilient foam that Nike also uses in its race line, with a firmer layer above it that provides support to the foot. You can see that combination in the midsole edge, where the two layers run over each other as separate bands; the name of the midsole foam is printed on the side. The upper is a double-layered mesh with a padded collar and a heel loop.

The line has meanwhile split into two directions. The Nike Vomero Plus continues the concept in an even thicker and wider sole unit, while the Nike Vomero 17 is the direct predecessor with a lower stack. The complete overview of the running branch can be found on the Nike Air Zoom Vomero page.

Confusingly, a street model also carries the name Vomero: the Nike Vomero 5 from 2011 became a lifestyle favorite and shares only the name with this running line.
