About
Adidas EQT
The man who designed the Air Jordan 1 went on to create this line. Peter Moore moved to the German camp in the early 1990s and was tasked with bringing the brand back to its core. The answer was called Equipment, or EQT for short: only what is necessary, nothing that isn’t. Not a single model, then, but a family built on that one principle.
The stripes moved to the laces
Look where the three stripes are. Not on the side panel, where they appear on almost every other model from the brand, but across the instep, like straps that work with the lacing. On older members they are literally strips of webbing that secure the foot; on newer ones they are molded into the cage around the laces. It’s the clearest example of the line’s philosophy: if a stripe doesn’t do any work, it doesn’t belong.
Each EQT carries a heel frame
The second shared feature sits at the back. Around the heel each family member has a separate frame that centers the foot: sometimes a molded plastic bracket with ribs, sometimes a stitched wrap. Together with the straps over the instep this forms the skeleton of the line, and the rest — material, sole, height — varies by model and era.
The members
The heart of the family is the EQT Support, the runner from the early days, with the 93/17 as the version that places that original on a modern cushioning sole. The Support ADV is the streamlined street version from after the revival, and the Bask ADV lifts the recipe to a higher, basketball-inspired silhouette. Around them stand Racing, Cushion and Ultra as smaller branches, each with its own page.
How to recognize an era
The original members are recognizable by textile with suede and by the loose straps; the modern ones by knitted uppers and molded cages. What never changes: the straps over the instep, the heel frame and the absence of ornamentation. Anyone who places an EQT next to a ZX sees two answers to the same question — the ZX celebrates its technology, the EQT hides it.
