The star on a taller sole
The Golden Goose Stardan carries the same large leather emblem on the side as the rest of the star family, but mounts it on a more pronounced platform. The cupsole is thicker and higher than that of the flat Super-Star, which gives the shoe more volume and presence under a trouser leg. “GGDB / Stardan” is printed on the side, and a small wing logo sits on the heel.
From the 1970s running shoe
The Stardan harks back to the vintage runner: a low, streamlined last with a rounded toe and a cupsole that nods to its running past. Golden Goose reworks that shape into a modern sneaker in full-grain leather, with suede accents on the toe and heel. It’s the star shoe with a running slant, whereas the Ball Star heads more toward the basketball side.
The distressed look is part of it
As with everything from the house, the Stardan receives an intentionally worn, lived-in finish. The leather is lightly distressed, the sole edge appears used and the star is sometimes slightly worn. That’s deliberate, not wear. The shoe looks second-hand while it is new, and that is exactly the intention.
Handmade in Italy
The Stardan is made by hand in Italian ateliers, which explains the price range. Artisans choose the leather and apply the distressing per shoe, so small differences between pairs are part of the design. Metal eyelets, a padded tongue and a leather heel lining underscore the premium finish.
What differs by version
The star, the high cupsole and the distressed finish remain the same across versions. What varies is the material, smooth leather or suede, and the treatment of the star and the accents. Place two versions side by side and the shape is identical; the leather and the star determine the rest.
