About Adidas BW Army
Adidas BW Army
The BW Army is one of the purest models in the archive of adidas. It is derived from the training shoe the brand made in the 1980s for the Bundeswehr, the German army, which the abbreviation BW refers to. It is a low, minimalist silhouette of smooth leather, usually in off-white, with a gum-colored sole underneath.
What stands out is the restraint. The three stripes don’t sit on as separate bands but are indicated by fine perforated and stitched lines along the side. There is no large logo; only on the sole is the brand embossed, and along the laces there is a small red zigzag stitch as the sole color accent. The heel forms a low, rounded shape that keeps the model calm and classic.
That sober image made the BW Army popular with designers and shops that made their own versions of it. Collaborations appeared with, among others, END. and Ronnie Fieg, which kept the model desirable outside the standard collection.
It is related to the brand’s other leather archive silhouettes; anyone looking for a busier classic should look to the Adidas Samba.
