About Saucony Endorphin Pro 4

Saucony Endorphin Pro 4

The Endorphin Pro 4 is Saucony’s marathon shoe, and thus the model with which the American brand enters the racing contest dominated by the major brands. The construction follows the same recipe: a thick block of resilient foam with a carbon plate inside, together intended to return energy at every push-off.

The brand’s particular emphasis is in the shape of the sole. Saucony builds its racing models with a strongly curved underside, where both the heel and the toe curl upward, so the foot naturally rolls forward instead of having to push off. The brand name appears as a wide black stripe across the side, with the model name small on the midsole and the foam designation on the heel.

The positioning is that of a pure racing shoe. The foam is soft and fast, but wears out correspondingly quickly with daily use; runners generally reserve these kinds of models for the race itself and the occasional hard workout.

Within the lineup, the Nike Alphafly is the best-known competitor in the same category, while the New Balance FuelCell shows how another brand works out the same idea.
