Nike Vomero

The Vomero started as a serious running shoe and ended up as a fashion object, and that’s almost entirely thanks to one generation. The Vomero 5 from 2011 was a cushioned long-distance trainer, with an upper made of so many separate panels that the model looked technical and almost messy. That very layering became the reason a new generation reclaimed it ten years later.

What you see in the photos is a study in stacking. Suede overlays, plastic ribs and reflective stripes sit over the mesh, with a ribbed panel around the swoosh on the side. The heel carries an open plastic cage in a diamond pattern, and in the midsole under the heel is a visible Zoom Air window. The jagged outsole rim with its separate blocks completes the silhouette: everything a modern running shoe neatly hides is exposed here.

The reevaluation fit the broader return of the technical running shoe as a street shoe. The Vomero 5 became a staple of the gym-shoe-with-jeans look and appeared in dozens of versions, including collaborations and even a Dunk in Vomero colors. Nike noticed and expanded the name into its own lifestyle line alongside the running division.
