The Chron 2 is the cheapest skate shoe in Nike SB’s lineup, and that’s not a criticism but the brief. The model is meant to be the entry-level shoe: someone starting to skate who doesn’t want to pay the price of a pro model right away, but does want a shoe that will survive the first months.
The construction is tailored to that. The upper is made of canvas or suede with a reinforced panel where the board rubs the most, and the seams on the side are double-stitched. Under the shoe sits a vulcanized sole: the rubber is bonded to the upper under heat rather than glued underneath, which creates a thin, flexible connection and therefore a lot of board feel. The swoosh sits as a large stitched panel across the side.
That vulcanizing is exactly what skaters pay attention to. A thicker, glued sole gives more cushioning but less board feel; a vulcanized sole does the opposite. For someone learning to skate that feeling usually weighs heavier than the landing.
