About Nike Savaleos
Nike Savaleos
The Savaleos is a weightlifting shoe, a category where almost everything works in reverse. Where trainers are usually soft and flexible, this one needs to be as stiff as possible: under the heel there is a flat, firm lift that doesn’t compress, so no force is lost in the foam during a squat or a clean and jerk.
The details are functional down to the smallest angle. A wide Velcro strap runs across the instep to hold the foot in place when getting under the bar, with a regular lacing underneath. The heel lift is visible on the side as a separate block in a contrasting color, and the upper is tightly woven with no stretch panels. Under the shoe is a flat rubber outsole with a fine pattern for grip on the platform.
The heel lift is the whole point. By raising the heel slightly you can squat deeper without overextending your ankle, which matters especially in Olympic weightlifting. For those who mainly deadlift, a flat shoe is actually better.
Within the training offering the Nike Metcon 9 and the Reebok Nano X4 serve the broader gym training; the Adidas Dropset is the direct competitor in the strength segment.
