The Vapor is the low-cut half of Nike’s speed line, and the direct heir to the shoe that made Ronaldo world-famous in 1998. Where the Superfly pulls its sock collar over the ankle, the Vapor sticks to a low cut: less material, less weight and a snug, form-fitting fit that leaves nothing between foot and ball.
The details are those of a match shoe. A MERC script is embossed across the instep, exactly where the ball strikes the upper, and the synthetic material is kept so thin that you can see the shape of the foot beneath. A Zoom Air unit sits in the soleplate, the same thin air unit with tightly tensioned fibers that Nike uses in running and basketball shoes. The studbed outsole mixes conical studs with bladed ones at the forefoot for cutting at top speed.
