About New Balance Numeric

New Balance Numeric

Numeric is the skate division of New Balance, and it is one of the few cases in which a running brand pulled that off credibly. The brand established the division in 2013 with its own team and design line, rather than giving existing models a thicker sole. Skaters helped decide what needed to be done, and you can see that in the shoes.

The modifications are exactly where a board wrecks a shoe. The suede on the side is thicker than on the regular models, the seams are placed as much as possible outside the abrasion zone, and under the foot there is a thicker insole that absorbs the impact of landing. The large brand letter on the side is outlined on this line with a double stitch line, and the model designation appears on the sole rim next to the brand name.

The model numbers refer to their origin in the regular line: the numbers from the running and lifestyle catalogues return in a skate version, so a familiar silhouette gets a new purpose. If you want to see the origin, look at the New Balance Fresh Foam for the cushioning branch and the New Balance FuelCell for the speed side.
