About New Balance 1080
New Balance 1080
The 1080 is the neutral running shoe with the most cushioning in the regular range of New Balance. The current generation carries the designation v15 and sits on a tall, soft midsole of Fresh Foam that the brand uses for its road shoes. It is a shoe for daily miles, built for comfort rather than speed.
The upper is made of knitted mesh that yields, with suede or synthetic reinforcements around the toe and the laces, and a large N logo on the side. The midsole flares wide at the heel and bends up under the forefoot, which makes the roll-off smoother. The upper edge of the sole visibly follows the shape of the foot.
Each year the 1080 is bumped up a number, with the basic concept remaining the same while mainly the upper and foam composition are revised. Older versions therefore often sit priced lower next to the newest.
Anyone looking for a lighter, pace-oriented shoe should look elsewhere within the same brand; the 1080 is intentionally the comfortable daily trainer.
