About Gucci Basket

Gucci’s basketball shoe

The Gucci Basket is a basketball-inspired luxury sneaker from the Italian house. The silhouette is bold and layered, with overlapping panels, cut-out windows and the interwoven GG logo in a concentric circle motif on the side. Underfoot lies a cupsole with an intentionally aged, vintage finish. The model appears both as a high and as a low sneaker and is one of the most prominent shoes in Gucci’s sneaker range.

Layered panels and the GG motif

The construction revolves around layers. Areas of leather and synthetic material overlap, with cut-outs that reveal mesh or contrasting colors, and the “GUCCI” lettering and the GG emblem as branding. The sole is thick and has a worn, aged look, giving the whole a retro-basketball feel. The shoe is made in Italy.

Often made in Demetra

Part of the Gucci Basket is made in Demetra, the animal-free, partly bio-based material Gucci developed as an alternative to leather. That places the model in the house’s more sustainable corner, without sacrificing the luxury look. Versions vary between Demetra and other materials, depending on color and release.

Within Gucci’s sneaker range

The Basket sits alongside other sneakers from the house, like the chunky Rhyton and the clean Ace. Where the Ace is restrained and minimal and the Rhyton heavy and dad-like, the Basket takes the basketball shoe as its starting point. Together they show how broadly Gucci interprets the sneaker concept.

What differs between versions

The layered panels, the GG circular motif and the aged cupsole remain the same across versions. What varies is the height, high or low, the material, including Demetra, and the color palette, from monochrome white to exuberant multicolor. Place two versions side by side and the construction is the same; the detailing determines the rest.
