About Asics Metaspeed Sky
Asics Metaspeed Sky
The Metaspeed Sky is Asics’ marathon shoe, and it’s notable because the brand makes two versions of it for two types of runners. The Sky is intended for those who get their speed from a longer stride; there is a second version for runners who instead run at a higher step cadence. Few brands split their flagship model that way.
The construction follows the recipe of the modern racing shoe. A carbon plate sits in the sole, surrounded by the brand’s lightest and most resilient foam, recognizable by the name printed on the midsole rim. The midsole is built up high and flares outward, and the upper is an ultrathin woven panel where the crossed brand stripes are woven through rather than stitched on top.
The difference between the two versions lies in the shape of the sole and the plate position. The Sky is built to increase stride length, while the other version supports step cadence; which works better depends on your natural running style, not your level.
Within the lineup the Asics Magic Speed 4 is the more affordable trainer with a plate, and the Asics Superblast 2 the plate-free all-rounder. Competitors are on the pages for the Nike Alphafly and the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4.
