This is the only Air Jordan designed for someone who had stopped playing. When Tinker Hatfield began the 10 in 1994, Michael Jordan had retired from basketball and was on a baseball field. So a shoe had to be made for a career that at that moment seemed over.

Where the models before increasingly showed technology, the 10 does the opposite. The upper is smooth tumbled leather without embellishment, without a visible air unit, without armor around the toe. The only interruptions are the webbing loops that arch over the laces. For a shoe from the mid-1990s, that restraint is almost provocative.
The CV sits under your foot
Turn it over, and that’s the idea. The sole is divided into alternating bands, and on the original release each band carried an achievement from a year of Jordan’s career. No logo, no slogan: a list, tucked away where no one looks and that scrapes along the floor with every step. A monster that carries its victories under the sole instead of on the chest.
And then he came back
In March 1995 Jordan returned to the court, in this model. That meant a shoe intended as a tribute to a finished career still got to play games. The Air Jordan 12 and Air Jordan 13 would then carry the second championship run, and the Air Jordan 14 would close it out.
