The UltraBOOST 22 is the generation in which adidas redesigned the last, which is unusual for a line that relies mainly on recognizability. The change was prompted by scans of more than two thousand women’s feet: the women’s version received a narrower heel, a lower collar and an adjusted forefoot, rather than simply being a scaled-down men’s shoe.
The core remained intact. Underfoot lies the familiar sole of compressed foam beads, visible as a granular mass along the entire edge of the sole, with the rubber outsole that the brand developed together with Continental around it. On the side is the plastic cage through which the three stripes run and which holds the foot in place during the stride; the model name is embossed in small relief on the heel.
The upper is a knit sock that wraps the foot seam-free, with a reinforced heel counter that anchors it to the sole. That combination of soft knit and a rigid cage is exactly why the model was used both on the road and in the city.
