Horst Dassler and adidas classics
Horst Dassler was the son of adidas founder Adi Dassler and helped shape the brand from the 1960s. We associate his name with over three thousand variants at adidas, spread across a handful of models. The Superstar and the Stan Smith are by far the largest branches and together cover the majority of the offerings on this page. Below those models are grouped together, with for each version the prices, sizes and availability from multiple webshops shown side by side.
What you’ll find here
The two biggest lines both came from the sports floor and then moved onto the street. The Superstar is recognizable by the rubber toe cap over the leather, a detail originally intended to protect the toes. The Stan Smith stands out for its lack of details: smooth leather, perforated stripes and nothing else. Because the shape of both has hardly been altered since, hundreds of colorways exist side by side and the distinction is almost entirely in material and color.
There are also smaller branches on this page. The Superstar 80s stays closer to the old production, with softer leather and a narrower sole.
