About Lakai

By skaters, for skaters. Lakai Limited Footwear was founded in 1999 in Torrance, California, by pro skateboarders Mike Carroll and Rick Howard — the same names behind Girl Skateboards. Rather than getting sponsored, they wanted to contribute to the skate shoe industry themselves.

Built for the board. Lakai makes shoes designed for and inspired by skateboarding: models that can handle the wear and impact of skating. The distinctive “Flare” logo became the brand’s trademark early on.

A strong team and collabs. The brand built a renowned skate team and is known for its collaborations, including its long-running partnership with Girl Skateboards. Those skate roots remain at the core of everything Lakai makes.
