Puma LaMelo

The MB line is LaMelo Ball’s signature, and it is notable for two reasons. Ball received his first own model at nineteen, unusually young for that honor, and he signed with Puma instead of one of the two brands that dominate the basketball market. That immediately made the line proof that the brand matters again on the court.

The design is daring. Where signature shoes often remain understated, the MB line goes all out: camouflage patterns, alien themes and bold contrasts, with a sole built up from sharp zigzag blocks. On the side sits the leaping cat as a major design element, and across the heel runs a woven panel with a spiderweb-like line pattern. The idea behind it is that a young player’s shoe is allowed to look like that. The line explicitly targets an audience raised on social media, and each release gets its own theme rather than just a new colorway.
