Nike ACG: All Conditions Gear — and you can take that literally

ACG stands for All Conditions Gear and has been Nike’s outdoor division since 1989. So it’s not a model, but a label that lands on very different shoes: hiking boots, sandals, sock-like slip-ons and trail runners sit side by side here. What they share is a mission rather than a silhouette, and on some versions ALL CONDITIONS GEAR is simply printed in full across the strap.

Still, there is one distinguishing feature that almost every member wears: the speckled midsole. Under the padded ACG Moc lies white foam full of black speckles, as if granite had been stirred through it, and under the React Terra with its cage of cords over the instep lies exactly the same. A heel pull tab also consistently appears, because a shoe you have to put on with gloves needs a handle.

The members vary widely in construction. The Moc is a slip-on without laces, padded in triangles like a duvet. The Mountain Fly and the Air Deschutz are the hiking models, the latter as an open sandal. The React Terra and the Zoom variants borrow running technology for off-road terrain.
