About

Birkenstock London

The London is the closed shoe in Birkenstock’s range: a low slip-on with a buckle across the instep, while the brand is mainly known for open sandals. The model is intended for those who want the brand’s footbed without bare feet, and is therefore one of the few versions that can be worn year-round.

The foundation is that of the entire brand. Under the foot lies the cork-latex footbed that molds to the foot through body heat and weight, with a raised arch support and a rim around the toes. Above it is an upper of soft suede with a single strap and a metal buckle to adjust the width; the brand name is stamped on the buckle. The sole edge shows the cork layer as a separate strip on the side.

The wool versions are the most noticeable: they feature a thick fur lining that curls out around the opening, which makes the model a winter shoe. Without lining it is a lightweight slip-on for the rest of the year.

The closed clog from the same brand is on the page for the Birkenstock Tokio; within the same category the Crocs Classic Clog serves the same purpose using a different material.
