About

adidas Moonrubber Megaride

The adidas Moonrubber Megaride is the most extreme member of the family and also the most laughably good. The starting point is still a Megaride, recognizable by the lightweight mesh upper with the three stripes, but that upper is here trapped in an enormous molded rubber shell that swallows the entire underside.

That shell curls into thick, inflated lobes around the toe and the heel, as if the shoe were dipped in liquid rubber and left to harden. On the underside there are oval cutouts that make the shape feel lighter while also providing grip. The contrast between that heavy, smooth volume and the delicate, almost transparent mesh above is exactly what the design is about.

The model was created in collaboration with AVAVAV, the Italian label known for its exaggerated and self-consciously absurd designs, and was released in women’s versions. So this is not a shoe that tries to behave. Those who appreciate the Megaride idea but want something more wearable should look to the Megaride S2 or the Megaride itself.
