There aren’t many sneakers that make you think, the moment you put them on, that the color works perfectly with the rest of your wardrobe. The Nike Dunk Low Premium Medium Curry is one of them, and that’s mainly down to the material.
Rugged suede does the work
The construction is a Dunk Low as you know it, but the execution is different. The base panels are white to light gray leather, topped with tan-brown suede that has deliberately been left rough. Not smooth, tightly brushed suede, but a hairy version with visible fibers. It covers the toe box, heel and side panels.
The swoosh takes a different approach: it’s made from a lighter, creamy yellow suede, helping it stand out from the brown around it rather than blend in. White laces, an off-white midsole and a dark brown outsole complete the look. Nike is embroidered in brown on the heel.
That combination of three warm shades with different textures is what makes it so wearable. An all-brown sneaker can quickly become boring. This one has depth without needing a pattern or print.
What to wear with it
Straight-leg jeans, preferably in a medium-blue or dark wash. The blue and brown work well together—it’s the simplest combination and immediately the strongest. It also works well with a cuff so you can show off the sole.
Olive or black cargos are the second option. Brown and olive sit close together on the color wheel without being identical, which gives the outfit a sense of calm. Black pants work too, but then the sneaker becomes the only warm element in your fit. That’s a choice, not a mistake.
What I’d avoid is a light beige or sand-colored chino. The pants and sneaker start to blend into each other, and you lose exactly the separation this colorway relies on.
Keep things simple up top: a cream-colored or gray hoodie, a checked or plain brown overshirt, with a dark jacket layered over it. A beige workwear jacket works too, as long as the shade is clearly lighter than the sneaker’s suede.
