The Air Liquid Max keeps moving. First came the poison-green debut version on Air Max Day, followed by the triple black, and now Nike is introducing a colorway that really comes alive at night: black mesh with a grid print that shifts from sapphire to radiant blue. It looks as if blue light is gliding across the side.
What makes the print work so well is that it doesn’t sit flat on the shoe. The dots start small around the toe and gradually grow toward the heel, giving the wave a sense of movement as you walk. Black swoosh, black laces, and nothing else to distract from it. All the visual impact comes from the pattern and the sole.
The sole is still the story. The Liquid Max isn’t a retro or a colorway update of an existing model, but a new silhouette with a full-length Air unit made up of separate pods. So, no smooth bubble here—just a row of individual cushions running from heel to toe, with space between them. On this version, they come in black with a smoky, slightly translucent finish, making the whole shoe look heavier than the green or aurora version.
Fit check. This is a shoe that lets the rest of your outfit keep things understated. Cargo pants or baggy jeans that fall just over the sole, leaving the pods partly visible—that’s the move. Black techwear works, but this colorway also benefits from a lighter layer up top, like a gray hoodie or a white T-shirt, which makes the blue stand out even more.
Grail or Bail? The Liquid Max line has a retail price of $230 in the United States, so this won’t be a cheap pair. The question is whether this is the colorway you’ve been waiting for, or whether you think the original poison-green version is stronger. You can cast your vote in Grail or Bail on the sneaker page, and as soon as the first shops start receiving stock, you’ll see the prices side by side there. With a fresh drop like this, availability trickles in, so checking early pays off.
