You see the GEL-NYC everywhere by now, usually in grey. This “Arctic Sky” colorway takes a different approach. Cream mesh forms the base, with dusty light-blue suede layered over the top. Soft colors, but the shape still hits hard.
Look at the construction and you’ll see just how many layers go into it. The mesh runs across the sides and toe, while the blue suede overlays sit on top across the forefoot, midfoot and heel. In between are the Asics stripes in silver-grey, just a little lighter than the rest. The asics logo on the heel panel comes in dark blue. That’s the only real point of contrast on the entire shoe.
Why it belongs in your rotation
This is color without the risk. The blue is so dusty that it almost reads as a neutral, so you don’t have to build your outfit around it. At the same time, it adds just enough personality to keep the shoe from becoming yet another grey runner. That’s exactly the sweet spot most people are looking for — and almost never find.
Pair it with washed denim or grey sweatpants and you’re instantly good to go. Want to let the shoes do the talking? Keep everything else clean: white T-shirt, grey hoodie, done. There’s no need to add anything bright, and honestly, it wouldn’t work here anyway. The midsole is already doing the heavy lifting. It’s a stacked white-and-grey unit with a GEL window in the heel, giving the shoe exactly the extra height this kind of runner needs.
Two things to know before you order
One: this is a runner with a serious amount of sole underneath. You’ll sit higher than you’re used to in a regular sneaker, so the fit looks completely different with shorts or cropped jeans than it does with something looser. Both work fine, but think about which direction you want to take before you hit order.
Two: light suede is still light suede. If you want to keep it looking fresh, a suede brush is a worthwhile investment. Nothing fancy — just useful to know if you’re adding these to your everyday rotation rather than saving them for your better days.
Hype and price
In our Hypescore, this colorway sits in the ATOMIC tier, the highest level on the scale. For a pair that only released in March 2025, that’s fast — especially without a collab attached. The GEL-NYC is doing it entirely on its own, simply because the shape resonates.
Price is the one thing to watch, though. The retail price was 239.99 euros. The current listings range from around 208 euros to nearly 500 euros across nine shops. One stylecode, one colorway, and more than double the price between the cheapest and most expensive options.
So filter by your size first, then compare the shops. With this ASICS pair, the difference between the low and high end of that range is practically the cost of a second pair. It would be a shame to give that away just because you stopped at the first shop.
