Vans has been selling the same silhouettes for decades, and its sizing is just as unconventional as its shoes. Fifteen of the sixteen sizes in its range correspond to a different EU size than a standard conversion would suggest. If you think you know your Vans size based on another brand, you’re taking a gamble.

Half a size different from the standard
At Vans, US 8 is EU 40.5, while the generic chart puts it at EU 41. The same difference runs through almost the entire range from EU 36 to 46.
The result: Vans assigns a lower EU number to the same foot. If you order based on a conversion chart you found elsewhere, your shoes will be half a size too roomy.
Unisex — and that’s an advantage
Vans uses a single size range for men and women. That makes ordering simpler than with brands that use two separate scales, because the same US size always means the same thing here.
Five of the sixteen rows differ in UK sizes. So the EU column is where things go wrong, not the UK column.
Fit
Vans fits true to size, and that’s one of the clearest findings from the entire study: almost nine out of ten wearers stick with their usual size, while those who size differently are just as likely to go up as down. No adjustment is needed.
There is, however, a separate Wide line, with a wider sole and forefoot as specified by Vans itself. If you have wide feet, choose that version instead of sizing up. The persistent claim that “Vans generally has a wide fit” is something we couldn’t substantiate.

Still unsure?
Measure your foot from heel to longest toe and compare that length with the cm column. Do this while standing, at the end of the day, and measure both feet. The larger foot determines your size.
Once you know your size, you’re two clicks away from being done. Enter it in the filter and you’ll only see shops that have your size in stock, starting with the cheapest. No more keeping multiple tabs open to compare prices, and no guesswork at checkout.
Frequently asked questions about Vans sizing
Do Vans run large or small?
Vans assigns the same foot a lower EU number than the standard chart. US 8 is EU 40.5 at Vans instead of EU 41. Fifteen of the sixteen sizes differ in this way, so use the chart on this page for your conversion.
Does Vans have separate men’s and women’s sizes?
No. Vans publishes one unisex range, from EU 36 to 46. The same US notation therefore always corresponds to the same EU size.
Why doesn’t my size in another brand work for Vans?
Because Vans uses its own sizing ladder, which differs from the standard conversion by half a size almost across the board. Your EU size in Nike or New Balance is therefore not a reliable predictor of your Vans size.
