Nike V5 RNR

The V5 RNR is Nike’s own answer to the hype around the Nike Vomero 5. When that old running model grew into a street favorite, the brand built a new silhouette around it that does the same without being a reissue: layered, technical and clearly from the running world, but intended as a lifestyle shoe from the drawing board.

The construction is intentionally stacked. Over a mesh base sit synthetic panels with pressed ribs, glossy overlays around the eyelets and a swoosh that lies on the side as a separate, raised element. The midsole extends into a thick, wavy block that becomes wider toward the heel, with an outsole beneath made up of separate segments. Even the laces are doubled, with an extra eyelet high on the instep.

The naming is cryptic. RNR refers to runner, the V to the Vomero line from which the silhouette borrows its shape. The model appeared alongside the Nike V2K Run, which applies the same formula to a lower, wider silhouette.

That Nike is serving a category with this rather than issuing an archival piece explains the rapid succession of iterations. The differences are in materials and finishing; the shape remains the same across the line.
