Nike Sabrina 2

The Sabrina 2 is Sabrina Ionescu’s second signature, and that line is notable for more than one reason. Ionescu is one of the few female players with her own model at Nike, and her shoe is conspicuously often worn by male players: several NBA players switched to it, which is considered a turning point in the basketball world.

The construction explains that appeal. The model is kept low and lightweight, with cushioning tuned for quick changes of direction rather than maximum softness. A woven panel with a fine zigzag pattern sits on the side, the Swoosh runs as a broad band across the vamp, and the player’s signature is printed on the midsole next to the cushioning-tech label.

That the shoe is played outside the women’s competition is both a commercial and cultural point for Nike. Female players’ signature models long had a small reach; this line broke that, partly because Ionescu deliberately had the shoe offered in men’s sizes.

Within the range, the Nike Kobe line is the clearest inspiration for the low, quick build, while the Nike Book 1 shows how another recent signature moved in the same direction.
