Tensioned threads instead of an air bubble

Inside a Zoom Air unit, tightly tensioned fibers stretch between the top and bottom of a flat air chamber. Put weight on it and those threads bend and the chamber presses in; let go and they pull the chamber taut again. That happens faster than in an ordinary air chamber, and that is exactly the point: this is cushioning that pushes back instead of only absorbing.

Why you usually cannot see it
