Asics Novablast: the springboard in the range

Every Asics line has a character, and Novablast’s is springiness. Since 2020 this has been the shoe for runners who want their kilometres light and springy, and the generation number now goes up to 5. No archive, no reissues: everything on this page is current running gear, and the title almost always states which generation you have.

The midsole is the whole story, and it doesn’t hide it. The sidewall is worked with faceted diamond cutouts like cut glass, with FF BLAST+ printed on it: the light, resilient foam that gives the line its name and its bounce. At the rear the sole protrudes like a small springboard lip, and above that the upper remains deliberately quiet, with the stripes only as thin stitched outlines. The ratio is clear: power below, calm above.

The titles bear a few additions that are quick to decode. TR marks the trail version with a coarser tread, LE and Lite-Show are finish variants, and GS is the kids’ size. If you just want to start, take the highest standalone number; older generations remain perfectly fine training shoes for those who don’t need the newest bounce.

Within Asics the roles are clearly defined. The Gel Nimbus is the soft kilometre-eater, the Gel Kayano the stable mainstay, and the Novablast the energetic youngest that gives a bit back with every step. Three types of cushioning, and this is the only one you may call a trampoline.
