Adidas Astir

The Astir is adidas’ answer to the demand for layered running silhouettes from around the turn of the century, but drawn from its own archive. The model takes its shape from the running shoes the brand made in the 1990s: a wide base, overlapping panels and a sole made up of several visible blocks.

The execution is notably soft in tone. Over a mesh base, leather and suede panels lie in muted shades, with the three stripes not as bands but as cut-out shapes in the paneling. The eyelets sit in round metal rings that appear as separate elements on the upper, and the sole runs in a wavy block with a gum edge under the toe. The trefoil logo on the tongue is small and rendered in the same shade.

The model was especially successful in the women’s segment, partly due to the soft colorways and the wide but low silhouette. This fits a broader shift: where technical retro shoes used to be bright and high-contrast, taste moved toward solid, muted executions.

Within the same taste, the Nike V2K Run and the Nike AL8 serve the same street scene from a different brand.
