ASICS GEL-NYC “White / Feather Grey” (1203A663-102): quiet, and that’s the point

ASICS GEL-NYC White Feather Grey 1203A663-102

Some sneakers need a second look before they make sense. The ASICS GEL-NYC in “White / Feather Grey” (1203A663-102) isn’t one of them. No bright accents, no loud branding, just an off-white and sand-coloured shoe with a solid shape. I kept wondering whether that makes it boring or exactly right.

Everything in roughly the same tone

The upper mixes white mesh with suede panels in a soft greige, the colour ASICS calls Feather Grey, which in real life sits closer to sand than to grey. The stripes on the side are in that same beige, so they barely register as a separate element. That choice runs through the whole shoe: everything is more or less one tone, which makes the shape matter more than the contrast.

Lower down it gets a bit busier, in a good way. The midsole is white with a beige band, the GEL windows are visible front and back, and the outsole has a dark, gum-like brown that keeps the whole shoe grounded. Without that dark strip underneath, it would probably have been too flat. No trace of pink this time, by the way. A small loss for me, nothing more.

Built from older ASICS parts

The GEL-NYC didn’t come out of nowhere. ASICS assembled it from its own archive: the upper references the GEL-NIMBUS 3 from the early 2000s, with details borrowed from the GEL-MC-PLUS V, and the base underneath comes from the GEL-CUMULUS 16. That explains why it looks familiar without you being able to say exactly where from. It also explains the volume. This is not a slim shoe. The sole is thick, the toe is wide, and if you’re used to flat sneakers you’ll need a moment, not for wearing it but for seeing it in the mirror.

The practical upside of this colourway is that you hardly have to think around it. White and sand go under jeans, calm trousers, most things really. The practical downside is just as simple: light suede stays light suede. If you like your shoes spotless for months, this one asks more work than a darker pair. ASICS lists the GEL-NYC as unisex, so sizing runs well into both ranges. Handy, but check the size chart per shop, because not every shop labels unisex models the same way.

Fifty listings, most of them at 150 euros

The retail price is €150, and on Solezilla.com that’s also where the crowd is. We’re tracking fifty listings in euros today, and a big block of regular shops, from Asphaltgold and Overkill to Foot Locker, Snipes, Footshop and Sneaker District, sits right at €149 to €150. Below that there are real savings at regular retailers: Warsaw Sneaker Store at €105.99, 43einhalb at €118, Solebox at €119.99 and The Attic at €129.95. GOAT and StockX go lower still at €86 and €88, but add fees and shipping before you count that as the cheapest. At the top, asking prices climb to about €241, usually from resale shops betting on scarce sizes.

There’s a little for the UK and US too: StockX UK at £121 and BSTN UK at £122.99, and one StockX US listing at $142.

The Hypescore sits at 67, RADIATING. That matches what you see: widely available, but with real movement in it.

My own answer to that question at the top: exactly right. Not because it’s exciting, but because it doesn’t try to be. If you’re considering it, line up the offers and see which shop still has your size below the €150 line. That easily saves you a few tens of euros.
