Air Max 1 “Shima Shima” (FB8916-100): on this pair your size sets the price

Nike Air Max 1 Premium Shima Shima FB8916-100

Some sneakers are priced by hype. Others are priced by your shoe size. The Air Max 1 Premium “Shima Shima” sits firmly in the second group, and that’s what makes it one of the more interesting pairs in the Air Max 1 line-up right now.

Quick basics: style code FB8916-100, officially Summit White / Plum Eclipse / Wolf Grey, dropped on 10 March 2023. That’s three and a half years ago, and that’s exactly why it’s worth a look today.

Two textures, no noise

A light grey, almost off-white leather base with plum-brown nubuck on the mudguard, the Swoosh and the heel. The laces pick up the same brown. The brown parts are clearly more matte than the smooth grey around them, so you get two textures side by side instead of one flat block of colour. Look inside and the collar lining is striped, there’s a small red touch on the tongue label, and underneath it’s a plain white midsole, a visible Air unit in the heel and a grey outsole.

It’s not a loud colourway. That’s the type of pair that drifts into the forgotten corner after a few years, while the shape stays just as good. Forgotten by the shops, that is. The Hypescore sits at 81, ATOMIC, so there’s still serious charge on this thing.

Under 90 euros at the bottom of the list

On Solezilla.com we count fourteen listings in euros from twelve shops, from €84 to around €175. At the bottom sits StockX at €84, then The Attic at €89.95 and Side Kicks at about €93. That second one is the interesting one: The Attic is a regular shop, not a resale platform, and a price like that on a three-year-old Premium colourway almost always means one or two leftover sizes they want gone. Then Noirfonce at €112.99, House of Sneakers and Sneaker Ask around €133 to €134, and a cluster from Sneakeregeer, Mentastore, Klekt, Stadium Goods, Geturbrick and KeepItSneaker between €149.50 and €174.95.

That gap isn’t random. With releases like this the small sizes are always the last to go, and shops that price per size let that pile slide down. If you wear one of those, you can pick up a premium Air Max 1 for less than a standard pair costs new. If you’re a common men’s size, it’s a fair shoe at a normal price, but not a steal.

What I’d watch out for

Everything we track on this pair is in euros. There’s no UK or US listing at the moment, so if you’re paying in pounds or dollars, add shipping and import costs before you decide something is a deal. And that goes for the European resale listings too: an €84 pair that lands at €115 with fees is still good, but it isn’t €84.

That’s the whole point of putting everything side by side. With this Air Max 1 Premium, the difference between a bargain and a bad buy isn’t when you shop, it’s which listing you happen to see first. Look up your size, line up the shops, take the bottom half of the list. And tell us in Grail or Bail whether the Shima Shima still deserves a spot on your shelf.
