Air Jordan 4 SE Craft “Photon Dust” (DV3742-021): light grey, hairy suede and a touch of vanilla

Air Jordan 4 SE Craft Photon Dust DV3742-021

Photon Dust is what Jordan Brand calls a very light grey, almost white, with a cool undertone. On this Air Jordan 4 SE Craft (DV3742-021) it covers nearly the whole upper, and yet the shoe doesn’t feel bare. That’s down to what happens with the materials.

Hairy suede right next to smooth leather

Look at the toe, the mudguard and the back of the collar: that’s suede with long, rough fibres, so shaggy the edges look almost fuzzy. Right beside it sit smooth leather panels in exactly the same grey. One colour, two very different surfaces, and that’s what gives a quiet colourway some depth. Even the grid on the side panel is grey and barely stands out from the rest.

The accents are few and well placed. The lace wings are vanilla yellow, and so is the Jumpman on the dark grey heel tab. That dark grey comes back in the midsole, at the toe and the heel, and the collar lining is dark too. The rest of the midsole is off-white, with the visible Air unit in its usual spot. Grey laces. Pink? Not a thread of it anywhere, which honestly takes away my excuse to like it more than it deserves.

What stands out to me is that this is a Jordan 4 you don’t have to style. Grey, off-white and a touch of yellow sit under almost anything calm, from light denim to charcoal joggers. The one thing I’d watch is that light suede looks dirty fast. A shoe with this much rough material wants a brush now and then, and on a wet day it’s better left at home. Plenty of people swap the laces, and I get it: black or dark grey laces pull the contrast of the heel and sole up the shoe. You don’t have to, but you can.

Do check the code when you search. There are several Jordans sold under the Photon Dust name, including versions with blue in them. This one has no blue: grey, dark grey, vanilla yellow and off-white, style code DV3742-021.

Seventeen euro listings and a single one in pounds

Right now we list 17 offers in euros from 15 shops. Most of them sit roughly between 175 and 240 euros. The lowest listing is 125 euros, but that’s a single one; the next is 159.68 euros, and it only gets busy from about 175 euros. The top end is 379.99 euros. These are starting prices per shop, so your size can cost more.

For UK buyers there is one listing in pounds, at £102 from a resale platform. There are no US dollar listings at the moment, so buyers in the US are looking at euro listings and should factor in shipping and import costs on top.

The Hypescore sits at 80, in the ATOMIC phase, so there’s still plenty of energy in this colourway even though it’s been on the market a while. You can see that in the offer: lots of addresses, few real bargains. Cast your own vote with Grail or Bail on the Photon Dust page, where you can also see which shops still have your size and what it costs.
