Tobacco — de naam zegt genoeg. Dit is de New Balance 2002R gehuld in warme, doorrookte bruintinten die van hiel tot teen in elkaar overlopen. Geen felle accenten, puur een tonaal spel van tabaksbruin, karamel en zachtere zandtinten die elkaar laag over laag aanvullen. Het geheel oogt volwassen en aards, alsof de kleurstelling uit een herfstpalet is geplukt. Juist die rustige, monochrome opbouw maakt deze M2002RXG veelzijdig: hij valt op zonder te schreeuwen.
Bruin is bovendien de meest dankbare kleur onder een spijkerbroek. Waar wit snel vuil oogt, dragen deze aardetinten een vleugje straatstof juist met verve — een streepje slijtage valt amper op en past bij het karakter. Combineer 'm met crème, olijfgroen of ecru en je hebt zo een verzorgde look die warm aanvoelt zonder moeite. Draag de broekspijp iets korter, laat de bruine tonen ademen, en deze 2002R doet de rest. Een paar dat je in september net zo makkelijk aantrekt als in het holst van de winter.
