Saucony ProGrid Omni 9

The ProGrid Omni 9 is a running shoe from 2010 that only became interesting fifteen years later. Saucony built it at the time as a stability model for daily training: lots of support, lots of material and a sole that corrects the foot. Such shoes normally disappeared from the catalogue without fanfare, but this one returned when fashion turned to exactly that kind of voluminous running silhouette.

The look is a document of its time. Layered synthetic panels in silver and grey lie over the mesh and catch the light, with the brand stripes as curved forms across the side. The midsole consists of multiple visible layers in different shades, with the cushioning system as a separate block in the heel, and on the underside a profile of planes provides grip. Nothing is hidden: every function is visible as a separate component.

That is precisely why the model returned. The appetite for technical shoes from the 2000s made silhouettes desirable that were once considered unattractive, and Saucony reissued the model, among others in collaboration with the London shop Footpatrol.

Within the same taste the Nike Vomero 5 and the Nike V2K Run serve the technical street aesthetic of the same period.
