The Cloudsurfer that dropped the Speedboard

The 2023 Cloudsurfer was a clean break for On, the first shoe built around CloudTec Phase.
Instead of separate pods with a stiff Speedboard, the whole midsole is a row of hollow chambers that collapse one after another as you roll through the step.
Losing the Speedboard is the point, because it makes this the soft, flexible On that earlier models never were.

Soft, bouncy and rockered

The ride is plush and lively, with a strong rocker that carries you smoothly from heel to toe.
It is happiest on short to mid daily runs and easy days, where the squishy foam is fun rather than tiring.
Inside, the padded upper and tongue are unusually comfortable for a running shoe, with a secure, snug lockdown.

Where it sits in the range

If you want On’s firmer feel with a Speedboard and a bigger stack, the On Cloudmonster is the counterpart to this shoe.
The Cloudsurfer fits true to size for most runners and has since grown into its own line with newer versions and a trail build.
For lighter everyday wear rather than running, the On Cloud 6 is the simpler option.
