Nike Air Force 1 ’07: the year that became the standard

The ’07 is not a separate model. It’s a year, tied to an anniversary: in 2007 the Air Force 1 turned twenty-five, and Nike released an updated version to mark the occasion. That version was so well received that it stayed. What began as an anniversary edition has since become simply the Air Force 1 you find in stores.

That explains something that immediately stands out on this page. Of the 49 versions listed here, 47 call themselves in the title simply Nike Air Force 1, without the suffix. The shoe most people mean when they talk about an Air Force therefore usually doesn’t even carry that designation. If you’re looking for the broader family, see Nike Air Force or the height categories of the Air Force 1 Low and the Air Force 1 Mid.

The difference with the 1982 version lies in details you have to look for. The metal lace plate on the laces is drawn with sharper angles than the round original, and the stitching is tighter. On the all-black version this creates a nice effect: that small piece of metal is the only part of the whole shoe that still catches light.

The rest has remained unchanged, and that is why the model works. AIR is embossed in the midsole wall at the heel. The sole edge runs around in a finely serrated band, originally intended to allow pivoting on a parquet floor. On the toe is a field of round perforations, the swoosh sits as a separately stitched panel on the leather and the collar is padded. This was the first basketball shoe with Nike Air underfoot, and the sole still carries that claim on the outside.

If you want a version with different materials or color accents, look at the Air Force 1 ’07 LV8. If you prefer the doubled, offset lines, see the Air Force 1 Shadow. The base underneath is always the same.
