Salomon size chart: what size should you get?

Salomon comes from the mountains, and its sizing is every bit as technical. The brand uses one-third sizes — 36⅔, 37⅓, 38 — and puts men’s and women’s sizes on the same EU scale. Only the US size shifts. It’s an unusual system, and it works surprisingly well.

One scale, two US systems

At Salomon, men’s and women’s sizes share exactly the same EU, UK and centimeter measurements. The only difference is the US size: the same shoe is listed as US 8 in the men’s sizing and US 9 in the women’s sizing.

That means your EU size doesn’t change at Salomon whether you’re buying a men’s or women’s model. With almost every other brand, it does.

One-third sizes and a wide range

The range runs from EU 36 to 50⅔, in one-third-size increments. Of the twenty-two comparable men’s sizes, seventeen differ from the standard conversion; for women, all fifteen do.

Salomon lists the foot length in centimeters for every size. For a brand where the right fit can mean the difference between blisters and no blisters, that’s the column to follow.

Fit

Salomon fits true to size, including the XT-6 and the Speedcross. Go with your usual size.

That’s deliberately contrary to the persistent advice that you should size up in the XT-6. We looked into it: every source making that claim is an unsupported affiliate article, while every source featuring genuine wearer feedback points to true-to-size. The advice likely comes from the snug midfoot, which makes the shoe feel narrower without making it shorter.

If you still want to go up a size to allow for thicker socks, bear in mind that Salomon uses one-third sizes: from 42, you move to 42⅔, not 42.5.
