This is the pair I almost left out of the piece, and for the dumbest reason: it’s never in a box. The New Balance 9060 “Shadow” lives by my front door, and it has done for so long that I’d stopped counting it as part of the collection. It’s just the shoe I reach for when I don’t want to make a decision. That’s probably the nicest thing I can say about any sneaker.
Aubergine that somehow reads calm
On paper the colour sounds like a lot. The overlays are aubergine suede — a deep, matte purple — over mesh panels in a dusty blue-grey. The N on the side is grey with a silvery edge, there’s a silver mudguard at the heel, and the sole is cream fading into grey. Written out like that it should be busy. In person it isn’t, because none of those tones are bright; everything sits in the same muted corner. No pink anywhere this time, which is a small loss for me personally, but I’ll cope.
That muted quality is exactly why it lasts. A purple sneaker sounds like something you plan an outfit around. This one isn’t. It works under jeans, under black, under grey, and it genuinely looks better with a beige coat on top than with anything neutral.
How it ages, and how it sizes
Honest bit: the suede has darkened at the toe crease and the cream sole is no longer cream. That comes with putting a light sole on a daily shoe, and it doesn’t bother me, but it’s worth knowing. The mesh and the stitching still look fine. On fit, the 9060 runs a touch small and feels compact inside, so wide feet or in-betweeners are safer half a size up; narrow feet can take their usual size. The cushioning is soft from the first step, so there’s no breaking-in to sit through.
What it costs on Solezilla.com right now
On .com we’re tracking fourteen active listings from about a dozen shops, nearly all of them in euros. The realistic floor sits around €130 at StockX, with The Attic at €139.95, Side Kicks and Stadium Goods near €156, and the pack climbing to roughly €210 at Geturbrick. GOAT also shows a single listing at €83 — a gap that big is your cue to check the size and condition before you get excited. Shopping in the UK? There are two listings: Stadium Goods UK around £87 and StockX UK near £94. For the US there’s one Stadium Goods US listing near $116. Either way the price mostly tracks your size; the ends of the run are the scarce ones.
On our Hypescore it sits at 62, in the RADIATING band. Not drop-day heat, more the steady hum of a model that never really leaves rotation — which, with this pair parked by my door, makes sense to me.
Every active shop, size and price sits side by side on the New Balance 9060 “Shadow” page. Still torn between colours? The full 9060 overview is the quickest way to see them, and the rest of the brand lives on New Balance.
