Air Jordan 5 “Sunset”: mostly white on top, all the colour down low (IV5678-102)

Air Jordan 5 "White / Sunset / Fire Red / Black" (IV5678-102)

The Air Jordan 5 “Sunset” had two release dates this year, and only one of them mattered if you live in Europe. The US drop landed on 25 September; over here the shoe has been on shelves since the middle of July. So if you saw the countdown posts and assumed you’d missed it, relax — you didn’t.

What you’re looking at is mostly a white shoe. The upper is plain white leather, calm and uncluttered, with a panel of clear mesh along the side and under the laces that keeps it from feeling heavy. The tongue is that reflective silver-grey most people point at first, carrying a small orange Jumpman. The colour lives underneath: orange sawtooth flames run along the midsole and fade into red, the translucent outsole is tinted red, and the collar is lined in red too. From above, though, it reads as white.

That’s the part that decides whether this one works for you. Because the orange and red sit low, you only really catch them when you move or look closely. Over light jeans or a cream trouser it gives you colour without asking you to build an outfit around it. The thing I’d keep in mind is upkeep: white leather with a clear sole edge doesn’t forgive a rainy November walk, so treat it as a dry-day pair. On fit, the Jordan 5 is fairly normal in width with a higher collar that closes around the ankle — if you’re between two sizes, trying on beats guessing here.

One size range, and prices that follow it

The “Sunset” first appeared in 2006 as a women’s make-up, and this year is no different — it’s a women’s size run, so if you usually wear men’s sizing, do the conversion before you order and check it per shop, because they list the range differently.

On Solezilla.com we’re tracking ten active listings today, and almost all of them are in euros. The regular shops mostly sit between about €179 and €210, with the top of that band landing around the €210 retail price and the cheaper end usually carrying a narrower size range; StockX opens the field near €173, and one listing climbs to roughly €254. For UK buyers there’s a single pound listing, BSTN UK at just under £163, and there’s no US dollar offer on this pair right now — so anyone shopping stateside should factor in shipping and import before getting attached to a number.

The Hypescore sits low at 31, in the INERT band, which fits a retro that’s been calmly available for months rather than fought over. This isn’t a shoe you rush; it’s one you pick up when your size shows up at the right price. That’s exactly the kind of thing you only see when you put the shops side by side — you can do that on the Air Jordan 5 model page, and the wider line-up lives on the Jordan page. Would I wear it? On dry days, yes — probably more often than the photos suggest. Grail or Bail: tell us where you land.
