Black is the easiest color to choose and the hardest to keep interesting. This adidas Samba OG solves that without adding a single extra color: the upper is largely made from woven leather, and that texture does exactly what a print or bright shade would otherwise have to do.
What the weaving does to the silhouette
Narrow leather bands interlace across the side panels and toe box in a neat basketweave pattern. Around them is smooth black leather: the T-shaped toe overlay, tongue and lace panel. The contrast between the matte weave and smooth leather is subtle — you only really notice it when the light hits at an angle — but it gives the shoe a depth that a solid-black Samba would never have.
The cream-white Three Stripes are the only light detail across that dark surface, joined by a cream-white heel tab with its familiar ridges. The adidas wordmark and trefoil appear in gold on the tongue. Underneath is the gum sole this model is known for. There are no other colors, and that is exactly why it works: the eye has something to focus on without the shoe demanding attention.
The undertone is warm, not cool
That is the most important thing to know before you start styling them. Black is neutral, but the cream, gold and especially the gum sole clearly pull this pair toward the warm side. Next to cool gray, ice blue or bright white, the combination feels off — the sole suddenly reads as yellow. Put it with camel, chocolate brown, olive, ecru or off-white, and it immediately makes sense.
How I would wear them
The most natural combination is a pair of wide-leg dark jeans with a straight hem that just reaches the gum sole. Add an off-white sweater or cream-colored shirt on top, so the heel tab and Three Stripes are echoed rather than left hanging as isolated accents. A cognac or chocolate-brown leather jacket completes the warm undertone.
If you prefer wearing skirts or dresses, a black midi skirt with black tights and a black sock creates one continuous dark line, with the weave as the only interruption. It is a calm, polished way to wear a sneaker with something dressier without making the outfit look sporty. Wide-leg wool trousers in anthracite achieve the same effect.
There is one thing I would avoid: too many other textures at once. Bouclé, tweed and chunky knits all demand the same attention as the weave, which can make the outfit look busy. Keep the rest of your materials smooth — denim, cotton, fine knits, leather — and let the shoe handle the texture.

The retail price is €130. At the moment, fourteen shops have it in stock, with the lowest price at €72 and the highest at €194.95. That is more than double the cheapest price, for the same shoe with the same stylecode. That makes this a model where it genuinely pays to look around before checking out.
