Some sneakers are bought because they stand out, while others are bought because they don’t clash with anything. The adidas BW Army in Cloud White with a gum sole clearly belongs to the second group. I came across it among a string of much busier models and found myself looking at it longer than expected, precisely because so little is going on.
What you see in the photos
The silhouette is low and narrow, with a flat sole and a lightly padded collar. The upper is white, but not plain white: a fine crackle structure runs across the side panels, adding just enough texture and character to the surface. Smooth, glossy panels in the same shade sit on top: the eyestay, tongue and three stripes. The stripes are white on white, so you only notice them when the light catches them just right.
The accents come from beige suede on the toe box and heel tab, with the same warm tone repeated in the cream-colored laces. Underneath is a gum sole in a caramel-like shade, stamped with the adidas wordmark and trefoil on the side. That’s it. No oversized side logo, no contrasting color, no text.
The BW in the name stands for Bundeswehr: this model comes from the world of the classic German army trainer, and you can still see that in its shape. Flat, functional and free of unnecessary fuss.
Would I wear these myself?
Yes, and probably more often than I would expect. This is a shoe that doesn’t ask for attention, which makes it easy to wear. With straight-leg jeans, the line stays clean because the sole is so low. It also works with wide-leg trousers or tailored pants, since the slim toe doesn’t look bulky under the hem. And because the colors are white and beige rather than white and black, they don’t clash with warmer tones such as brown, khaki, ecru and denim.

What I do want to be honest about
White with a beige suede toe box isn’t the most carefree combination. Suede in exactly the spot where your shoe is most likely to get knocked means a suede brush is far from unnecessary. The gum sole will darken over time, which some people actually prefer, but it’s still something to keep in mind.
And it has a flat, thin sole. That’s exactly why the silhouette stays so neat, but don’t expect thick cushioning underneath. This is a shoe for getting through the day, not for clocking up miles. When it comes to the fit, I’d rather not make a judgment based on feel alone: check which sizes each retailer actually has in stock, and you’ll know for sure.
What it costs
This is where things get interesting. We’re currently tracking around twenty active offers for stylecode JH7834, with the cheapest sitting at around eighty euros while the most expensive costs more than one hundred and sixty. That’s more than double for exactly the same shoe in exactly the same colorway. The Hypescore is 74, so there’s enough activity around it to explain why not every retailer sticks to the same price.
That’s precisely why it pays to compare before checking out. Put the shops side by side, filter by your size, and see where the combination of price and availability makes sense. With a shoe this understated, the price doesn’t have to be.
