Some colorways you buy because they’re new, and others you buy because they never go away. This Air Max 1 in “Monarch” belongs to the second group, which makes it more interesting to buyers than most of the things dropping this month.
What you’re getting
White leather and light gray mesh form the base, with a black Swoosh and that deep amber suede on the toe box and heel. The same shade returns in the collar lining and the trim on the tongue. The midsole is white with the Air unit visible, while the outsole is black. Nothing else is going on, and that’s exactly right.
Monarch isn’t a loud orange. It sits somewhere between rust and amber—warm and slightly muted—and that’s why this color keeps working on an AM1 while brighter oranges start to feel dated after a season.
What I’m looking at
The Hypescore is 83, and the Grail or Bail score stands at 580 to 60. More than ninety percent vote yes. Good numbers, but that’s not what I’m buying it for.
What I’m looking at is this: seven stores have it, with prices ranging from 129 to 280 euros. That’s more than double for the same stylecode. With a colorway that isn’t selling out and isn’t disappearing into resale, that difference is pure retailer markup and nothing else. You don’t need to be quick—you just need to look around.
My strategy with pairs like this
A colorway that comes back every few years rarely becomes scarce. That means the lower end of the price range stays stable and sometimes drops further toward the end of a season. I wouldn’t buy this one in the top half of that range, no matter how good that store’s photos look.
Also, pay attention to your size. With a widely released AM1, the middle sizes are available everywhere and you have plenty of time. If you’re at the smaller or larger end of the size range, the lowest price depends on whether those two stores happen to have your size. Check that first, and you’ll know whether you can afford to wait.

Where that 129 euros actually applies
I checked what’s really in stock in each size, and that makes the price range look a lot less rosy. Sixteen sizes are available, but most start at 170 euros. That lowest price of 129 exists in exactly one size: 44. In size 42, prices start at 158; in 44.5 and 45.5, at 157; and in every other size, you’ll pay 170 or more.
That’s the catch with every “from” price. It tells you nothing about your size, only about the luckiest size in the range. So check what’s listed in your size before using that lowest price as your reference point.
