Clarks does something no other brand in this series does: it publishes two different EU sizing scales side by side. There’s a “Clarks EU Size” and a “Standard EU Size”, and they don’t match. A women’s UK 5½ is Clarks EU 39 but Standard EU 38½. Which one you need depends on where you’re looking.
We use the label size
The size shown inside the shoe is the Clarks scale. It’s also the value that appears in retailers’ feeds, and therefore the size a comparison site should match. Our table uses this scale.
If you come across a Clarks size that doesn’t quite match what you expected, you’re probably looking at the Standard column. The difference is usually half a size.
Fit: go half a size down
Clarks Originals run on the roomy side. Based on several independent sources, including measurements of nearly three thousand pairs, our advice is: go half a size smaller than your usual size. This applies especially to the Desert Boot.
Clarks is spot-on when it comes to UK sizing: there’s no deviation from the standard conversion, for either men’s or women’s sizes. The difference is entirely in the EU column, where eleven of the thirteen women’s sizes and ten of the twelve men’s sizes differ.
