In the 1980s, the West German Army issued simple, low-profile sneakers to its troops, then known as bundeswehr sportschuhe, or federal defence sports shoe. Now known as the German Army Trainer – or GAT for short – it’s become one of the most recognisable styles in the world, from the two-tone panelling to the slim gum soles. Officine Creative’s ‘Militia 001’ pair is a luxe take on the classic, made in Italy from full-grain deerskin leather and finished with tonal suede.
