About Vans Lowland

The basketball side of Vans

The Vans Lowland CC shows a lesser-known side of the brand. While Vans is mainly known for its skate shoes with the side stripe, the Lowland harks back to the basketball shoes the brand made in the 1980s. On the side there is therefore no stripe but a large, outlined V, the old flying-V logo. The silhouette is a low court shoe: clean, slightly sporty, and closer to the court than to the skatepark.

CC stands for comfort

The CC suffix refers to ComfyCush, Vans’ comfortable sole technology. Beneath the classic look is therefore a softer, more cushioning footbed than with an old-fashioned vulcanized sole. It makes the Lowland a shoe that combines the retro basketball look with modern wearing comfort, meant to be worn all day.

Leather or suede with mesh

The Lowland comes in different materials. There’s a version in smooth leather that looks sleek and neat, and one with suede and mesh that appears airier and sportier. The large V, the perforations on the toe, and the gum accents in the sole remain the same each time; the material determines whether it reads as dressy or casual.

Alongside the Old Skool

Within Vans the Lowland follows a different track than the well-known Old Skool and the high SK8-Hi. Where those carry the skate heritage with the side stripe, the Lowland looks to the basketball past with the V. Anyone who wants the typical Vans angle but in a lower, court-like form and with a bit more cushioning will find the Lowland.

What differs by version

The low court shape, the large V and the ComfyCush sole remain the same across versions. What varies is the material, leather or suede with mesh, and the finishing of the details. Place two versions side by side and the shoe is the same; only the outer material changes.
