The Arizona is one of the many trail runners with which Puma filled its catalog in the 1970s, and the design immediately betrays that decade. It is a low, narrow suede silhouette with a pointed toe, with the leaping cat running across the side as a major design element and the model name printed next to it in gold-colored letters.
The construction is straightforward. Soft suede across the entire upper, a padded collar around the ankle and a thin gum sole with a fine block tread that comes up over the toe. There is a small label with the brand name on the tongue, and a thin contrast stripe runs along the edge of the sole.
The name fits into the series in which Puma named its models after places, similar to what competitors did in the same period. Only a handful from that series have been reissued, and the Arizona is one of them.
Within the brand offering, the Puma Suede and the Puma Easy Rider cater to the same retro taste; among other brands the Adidas London does the same from the City Series.
