A climbing shoe, but from Prada
The Prada Speedrock does something few luxury brands dare: it takes the climbing shoe as its starting point and stays noticeably close to it. The silhouette is hyper-flat and fits snugly around the foot, exactly like a real climbing shoe does to create grip on the rock. Where many climbing‑inspired sneakers only borrow the look, the Speedrock goes further and also adopts the flat, foot-following fit.
The rubber rand wraps the foot
Look at the sole and the toe. A rubber rand runs up all the way around, over the toe and along the side, just like the grip zone of a bouldering shoe. Above that is a thin, lightweight upper and the sole is almost nothing—flat and flexible. The laces are the speckled rope laces you know from the climbing world, here as a nod to its origin.
Mesh, leather or Re-Nylon
The upper appears in different materials, and that shifts its character. There’s a technical mesh version that looks airy and sporty, a leather variant, and a suede one with Re‑Nylon, the brand’s recycled nylon. The latter references Prada’s boat and sailing shoes, the world of the America’s Cup, and pulls the climbing shoe back into the luxury segment.
Flat, like the Collapse, but tighter
The Speedrock shares its flat, minimal approach with the Prada Collapse, but where the Collapse is soft and prone to collapse, the Speedrock is instead tight and enveloping. One feels like a gym shoe, the other like a climbing shoe. Both show how far Prada dares to strip back the sneaker.
What differs by version
The shape, the rubber rand and the flat sole remain the same across versions. What changes is the material of the upper—mesh, leather or suede with Re‑Nylon—and the finish of the laces. Place two versions side by side and the climbing shape is identical; only the skin around it changes.
