The Tech Hera is built from parts Nike already had on hand. The model borrows the layered panels of 1990s training shoes, places them on a substantial wavy sole unit and creates a silhouette that doesn’t come from any single piece of the archive but refers to many. The name is a reference to the Greek goddess, in the same tradition in which the brand chose its own name.
The execution relies on material contrast. Suede panels in muted tones lie over a mesh base, with the swoosh as a separate element on the side and a second, smaller logo on the heel. The laces run through loops instead of punched eyelets, and the sole waves in thick ribs around the shoe, with a wide flared heel that visually weights the shoe.
That the model proved especially popular in the women’s segment fits that construction: low to the ground but wide, in colorways that are more soft than loud. It is Nike’s answer to the same demand that the Adidas Astir serves at the competitor.
