About
Nike Revolution
The Revolution is the shoe most people run their first miles in on Nike. No carbon plate, no marketing stunts, just a lightweight daily trainer that for generations has promised the same: soft cushioning, low weight and an easy on/off fit. Precisely for that reason this modest line may be seen more often on schoolyards and in gym halls than many hyped models.
Generations follow each other at high speed. The Nike Revolution 5 and the Nike Revolution 6 are the most widespread model years, while the Nike Revolution 7 and the newest Nike Revolution 8 take over with softer foam and a calmer design. The midsole is recognisable by the slanted wave cuts carved like a honeycomb into the foam, so the sole bends without becoming heavy.
Notable is how broadly Nike uses this line as a testbed for accessibility. The FlyEase versions carry a wide Velcro strap with the asterisk logo over the instep, allowing the shoe to be put on with one hand or even without hands. The children’s versions combine Velcro with elastic laces, and the Next Nature editions are largely made from recycled material. What looks like a simple budget shoe is in practice where Nike rolls out its most practical ideas first.
If you outgrow the Revolution, you don’t have to leave the shelf: within the same brand the Downshifter awaits as a counterpart and the serious runner moves on to the Pegasus family. But as a daily all-rounder for school, work and the first runs, this line has for years held its ground against shoes with twice the pretensions.
